Nathan Shafer is a speculative media artist, whose works engage in memes (how ideas spread through culture) and the interpretations of transhumanism (cryonics, space colonization and pantropy). During 2000 he helped found the art organization the Meme-Rider Media Team in Anchorage, Alaska. His projects take various forms: cryonic suspension devices that also make ice cream, imagineering schematics set 250 million years in the future and a 'pataphysical co-ed scout troop. His speculative media operations have been shown at the International Gallery of Contemporary Art and Out North Contemporary Art House in Anchorage, Alaska, Flight 19 in Tampa, Florida, and are included in the Pierogi Flat Files in Brooklyn, New York and the Rhizome.org ArtBase online.
